I would strongly recommend against listening to hip hop and r&b. It will actually make you dumber. This has been proven with many scientific studies. Country music has the same effect, but with additional side-effects such as the desire to watch NASCAR and frequently shopping at Walmart. The only way to avoid these problems is to listen to good music – here is a brief list:

    Underoath
    Metallica
    As I Lay Dying
    Atreyu

A recent study conducted by a major university confirmed that listening to these bands will actually make you cooler, less lame, and generally more badass.

Any Lupe Fiasco – Enemy of the State or any release from his new L.A.S.E.R.S. album
    Tech N9nes- K.O.D. (I think its great)
    Young Money
Passed Up – The September Project
    Eminem – Relapse Refill
Kid Cudi – Man on the Moon
