Self Destruction
July 20th, 2010 | By
The Stop the Violence Movement was formed by rapper KRS-One. During a Boogie Down Productions and Public Enemy concert, a young fan was killed in a fight; galvanized into action, KRS-One founded the Stop the Violence Movement. Comprised of some of the biggest stars in contemporary East Coast hip-hop, the movement released a single (‘Self Destruction’) in 1989 with all proceeds going to the National Urban League.

CAN WE GET THIS BACK? UNITY! HIP HOPPERS, R&B come together and do something like they did back in 1988! I can’t think of 20 different RAP artists right now, that would be positive enough to do this.
I say grab the same folks who did it before and inspire the current hip hoppers to do better. Stop glorifying violence… and disrepect towared each other!!!
@neogetophule EXCUSE ME! Good sir you have no idea what lyrcism is do you?
@DigitalJediMaster Hmmmm, I guess that means they pretty much failed at the task.
this song single handedly disintergrate 100% of the mainstream hip-hop today.
PEACE…YA HEAR ME!
@nogetophule They did try one 20 years later. To, uh, mixed results…
Oh yeah, the days when rap didn’t want to be associated with gangsters or crime. [dismayed]
THIS S–T IS HARD FAM!!!! STOP PLAYIN.
When this video was made, it spoke for millions of young minds that were not understading what was happening at the time. When the record came out ***** and aids were HUGE, today drugs and AIDS are still here but we also have other problems. It seems like instead of getting out of the problem we went around in a big circle. Why is that? America is one of the most powerful contries in the world, so why is violence such a huge problem with our youth?
Hip hop culture needs to be reminded of this era!!!!
these were rappers no todays shit
@galan98 this is one of the best lines in the history of rap.
